Question 1.
Construct the following quadrilaterals:
(i) Quadrilateral MORE
MO = 6 cm
OR = 4.5 cm
∠M = 60°
∠O = 105
∠R = 105°
(ii) Quadrilateral PLAN
PL = 4 cm
LA = 6.5 cm
∠P = 90°
∠A = 110°
∠N = 85°
(iii) Parallelogram HEAR
HE = 5 cm
EA = 6 cm
∠R = 85°
(iv) Rectangle OKAY
OK = 7 cm
KA = 5 cm
Solution:
(i) Draw a rough sketch of quadrilateral MORE with all its dimensions.
Steps of construction:
- Take a line segment MO = 6 cm.
- Construct ∠MOR = 105° and cut off OR = 4.5 cm.
- At point R construct ∠ORZ = 105°.
- Now draw angle ∠OMY = 60°.
- MY intersect RZ at E.
- MORE is a required quadrilateral.
(ii) Steps of construction:
Sum of angles of a quad, is 360°
∴ ∠P + ∠L + ∠A + ∠N = 360°
90° + ∠L + 110° + 85° = 360°
∠L + 285° = 360°
∴ ∠L = 360° – 285° = 75°
- Draw a line segment PL = 4 cm.
- Construct ∠P = 90° and ∠L = 75°.
- Take line segment ∠A = 6.5 cm.
- At A, draw an angle ∠A = 110°.
- PY and AX intersect at N.
- PLAN is a required quadrilateral.
(iii) In a parallelogram opposite angles are equal.
Steps of construction:
- Draw a line segment HE = 5 cm.
- Draw ∠HEA = 85° and ∠H = 95°.
- Cut EA = 6 cm and HR = 6 cm.
- Join RA.
- HEAR is a required parallelogram.
(iv) In a rectangle each angle is 90°.
Steps of construction:
- Draw a line segment OK = 7 cm.
- Construct ∠OKX = 90° and cut off KA = 5 cm.
- Construct ∠KOZ = 90° and cut off OY = 5 cm.
- Join OY and AY.
- OKAY is a required rectangle.
